Americans Abroad: Weekend Rewind | Soccer By Ives

Just days after a disappointing2-1 loss to Mexico in a World Cup qualifier, some of the United States top players bounced back with solid weekends abroad.

Clint Dempsey beganthenew Premier League season on a positive note, goingthefull 90 minutes in Fulhams season opener against Portsmouth, and playing a part in the games lone goal. In the 13th minute, Dempsey aimed for goal from 25 yards out, but his shot deflected off of teammate Bobby Zamora before sailing into the back of the net.

Charlie Davies also had an impressive weekend,hitting a brace in just his second game with Sochaux. Davies entered the game as a half-time substitute and madea giantimpact, scoringgoals in the 61st and 90th minute. Despite hisgoals, Sochaux fell to reigning French champions Bordeaux, 3-2.

Davies wasnt the onlyAmericanAbroadto score this weekend. San Luis defender Michael Orozco not only helped blank Pachuca, but he also netted the second goal inthe teams3-0 victory.
